SEMINAR OPPORTUNITY:

"Preaching I Thessalonians: From Text to Sermon" with Dr. Jeffrey A.D. Weima

Calvin Theological Seminary Professor of New Testament Jeffrey Weima is happy to arrange to hold this two-day seminar for pastors. The seminar is aimed at pastors who wish to brush up on the exegetical steps required in moving from the biblical text to a sermon that faithfully expresses its message for the church today. The brief letter of I Thessalonians deals with important subjects such as the second coming of Christ, the sanctity of sex, comfort concerning believers who have passed away, models of behavior for church leaders, and much more. The seminar examines the historical context, epistolary structure and text of this important epistle of Paul, all with the larger goal of helping pastors write sermons that make this ancient letter relevant for the contemporary church.

Dr. Weima has taught at CTS since 1992, is the author of numerous articles, two books, and is currently writing a commentary on I & II Thessalonians for Baker Books. He frequently lectures throughout North America and overseas and also leads tours on Paul's Missionary Journeys. If you are interested in trying to arrange a seminar for pastors in your area, please contact Dr. Weima at 616-957-6019 or by email at weimje@calvinseminary.edu

The participants in this seminar will study one text each day under Dr. Bruner's tutelage and then start to fashion those textual insights into sermons.
